Yechury gives suspension of business notice over ABVP-Ramjas row

New Delhi: Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Friday gave a notice for suspension of business in the Rajya Sabha over the recent violence in Delhi University’s Rajmas College, on February.

Several opposition leaders, including Yechury, D. Raja were among those who visited the protesting students.

“Students should be allowed to express themselves. Politics is deciding everything for students today. Why should I not decide on my politics? Youv have to make your own choice,” said Yechury during protest.

Controversy erupted after a Delhi University student Gurmehar Kaur invited the wrath of many for posting a message against the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on social media.

She had to visit the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) alleging to register a complaint of receiving rape threats on social media for posting the message.

The Delhi Police has filed a case on the basis of rape complaint.

The entire controversy is linked to a clash between the Left-affiliated All India Students Association (AISA) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) backed ABVP over the cancellation of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Umar Khalid to talk at Ramjas College.(ANI)
