Hyderabad, December 17: Today is Yaum-e-Ashura, Shia Muslims in the historic city of Hyderabad observe this day by taking out the traditional ‘Tazia’ (mourning procession) remembering the great martyrdom Syedna Imam Hussain (RAA) the grandson of Prophet (PBUH).
The procession will start from historic Bibi ka alawa in Dabeerpura at 1 o’clock and will pervades through Pathar ka makan, Kaman Sheikh Faiz, Yakut pur, Etebar Chowk, Kotla Alijah, Charminar, Gulzar House, Panjeshah, Mandi Meer Alam, Darushifa, Kali Qabar finally reaching Chaderghat. The procession will end at the foot of Moosi River.
Various mourning groups will participate in the procession of ‘Bibi ka alam’.
Mourners flagellate themselves amid nowha khwani (elegy singing).
Besides various political personalities including police officers and public representatives, members of former Nizam’s family — ruler of erstwhile Hyderabad state — will make offerings (dhatti) to the alam.
Massive security arrangements are being made by the police for the procession, which will pass through the historic Charminar and other major thoroughfares in the old city.
