Hyderabad, August 29: Congress leader and Lok Sabha member from Nizamabad Madhu Goud Yashki has welcomed Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s projection of Rahul Gandhi as prime minister after the 2014 elections.
In an informal chat with reporters in the Assembly lobbies here Friday, the MP hoped that the Congress would solve the Telangana issue under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi. “Rahul has dynamism and vision about the overall development of the country.
He is also in favour of smaller states,’’ Yashki said.
“Rahul has commitment to formation of smaller states in the country. Some of the opponents to smaller States started influencing the leader on the need for larger States. The Chief Minister is not at all a hurdle to formation of the Telangana state. There is no scope for personal decisions in the Congress or the BJP. Only national parties can deliver Telangana,’’ he said.
Everybody should abide by the high command’s decision, he said and pointed out that the Chief Minister himself clarified that he would abide by the party decision.
Yashki said he would meet AICC president Sonia Gandhi at an appropriate time to discuss the Telangana issue.
Pooh-poohing the so-called analyses of the outcome of the general election as a people’s verdict on Telangana, he said the defeat of TRS and Telangana issue should be viewed separately and all parties contested the elections promising statehood to Telangana.
He said that Telangana issue was never defeated in the elections because all the parties sang Telangana refrain in the election campaign. Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy and PCC president D Srinivas too declared that the Congress was committed to Telangana state.
The ministers, who were defeated in the elections, lost because they neglected Telangana region when they were in power, he said.
The present movement was the best to clinch the Telangana issue, he said.
