Yanamala hails SC verdict against tainted MPS, MLAs

TDP senior leader Yanamala Ramakrishnudu today welcomed Supreme Court direction asking lower courts to complete trials against MPs and MLAs in criminal cases within a year of framing of charges.
Yanamala, in a statement here, has stated that as per statistics there were 20 per cent public representatives involved in criminal cases in 2002 which has been increased to 30 per cent now. Quoting the study conducted by National Election Watch Association for Democratic Research, Yanamala stated there were 4,835 MPs and 1,448 MLAs allegedly involved in various criminal cases in the country. Out of 543 MPs, 128 MPs have faced various criminal cases in 14th Lok Sabha while the figure increased to 162 MPs in 15th Lok Sabha, TDP leader added.
The TDP politburo member demanded that the government set up a special court for the trial of YSRC president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy. The Election Commission should implement guidelines given by Supreme Court to prevent the criminal elements from contesting in the elections, he added. (NSS)
