Yamuna flowing near danger mark in Delhi

New Delhi, September 11: Following incessant rains over the last couple of days, the Yamuna has been swelling dangerously. On Friday morning, the river neared the danger mark of 205 metres.

As Delhi witnessed over 113 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours, the water level of Yamuna crossed 202 metres.

It was expected to rise further after Haryana released 4.25 lakh cusec water from Tajewala bandh in Yamunanagar district. Haryana also released 2.20 lakh cusec water into the Yamuna in Faridabad.

The Delhi government has issued a warning of possible flooding in low lying areas along the river.

Rains continue to lash Delhi

Meanwhile, the national capital woke up to yet another wet morning on Friday. Continuous showers were reported through the Thursday night and on Friday morning.

The met department forecast that more rainfall was likely all through on Friday. The continuous raining has been causing water-logging leading to traffic jams across the city.

Earlier on Thursday heavy showers had crippled the capital causing massive water-logging and resultant traffic snarls in most parts. To add to the commuters’ woes, traffic signals stopped functioning at busy intersections causing complete chaos during the rush-hour traffic.

At some places there were also the reports of roads caving-in.
