The CBI’s Andhra Pradesh Unit Joint Director V V Lakshminarayana has been provided with ‘Y’ category security following a threat perception to his life by intelligence agencies in the backdrop of chargesheets filed by him in high profile cases. Mr Lakshminarayana, who filed the chargesheet in the Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s alleged illegal assets case on Saturday last, will now have two armed gunmen guarding him round-the-clock, A bullet-proof vehicle has also been provided for him.
The bullet-proof vehicle will be provided by Intelligence Security Wing and the escort by the city police.
The two gunmen of the city and Cyberabad police, will guard Mr Lakshminarayana in his office located at Koti and his residence. A communication to this effect has been received by the state government from the Centre a couple of days ago. A high-level decision was taken to provide Mr Lakshminarayana the ‘Y’ category security cover after an emergency file was circulated to this effect.
A police officer said, it was not a regular security review committee decision. The decision was taken on an emergency basis. however, no threat calls or direct threats had been received.
Besides supervising the illegal assets case of Mr Jagan, Mr Lakshminarayana was also looking after the other high profile cases, including Obulapuram illegal mining case, in which former Karantaka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy was arrested and the APIIC-Emaar land scam. UNI
