Johannesburg: Former world number one Caroline Wozniacki on Friday has backed her close friend Serena Williams, saying that the latter can definitely beat Steffi Graf’s record of 22 major titles despite her recent defeat at the US Open.
Serena, who secured her first Grand Slam title at the US Open in 1999, was hoping to complete the first calendar-year Grand Slam by winning her 22nd career major title at Flushing Meadows. But she suffered a shocking 2-6, 6- 4, 6-4 defeat against Roberta Vinci.
The 25-year-old said that Serena had already won three Grand Slams this year, adding that she has already proved herself, Sport24 reported.
Wozniacki asserted that Serena will soon make her on Grand Slams record.
Meanwhile, Wozniacki said that she would try and do her best in the upcoming matches so that she could qualify for the year-ending WTA Finals in Singapore. (ANI)
