On the occasion of World Toilet Day on Thursday, Sulabh International Social Service Organisation, an NGO in General Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, is organizing a two-kilometer walk from Jalavihar to People’s Plaza on the Necklace Road here. Film actress Charmy Kaur will help spread the word to end open defecation. Some 1,000 people are expected to take part in the walk.
“Every year November 19 is observed as World Toilet Day as designated by United Nations to raise awareness among the people, who don’t have access to a toilet, despite the fact that it is a human right to have clean water and sanitation. The program will help fulfill the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide toilet in each household by 2019. Modi has ignited the candle of cleanliness among Indians to make India clean. “We should join hands with the Prime Minister to make India clean and free from open defecation. Be civilized, be cultured, be clean, make India clean and standout in the community of nations,” said Dr Bindeshwar Pathak, Founder, Sulabh Sanitation & Social Reform Movement. (NSS)
