Gurgaon : The head of the Nephrology Department of the Paras Hospital, Dr P. N. Gupta has welcomed the decision of the Government announced in the budget to reduce duty on certain equipment for dialysis.
He was speaking at the World Kidney Day at the Paras Hospital here. Dr. Gupta, said that the decision of the Government to provide dialysis equipment at district hospitals would help patients suffering from Kidney diseases. Presently, those ailing from the kidney disorders have to travel to cities to undergo treatment and spent a full day to treat themselves and return home.
Speaking to patients, who were invited to participate in the function on World Kidney Day, Dr Gupta said that it was possible for a patient suffering from the ailment lead a normal life, if he undergoes regular dialysis. He gave examples of his patients who are leading normal lives for over ten years while undergoing treatment at the Paras Hospital.
It was pointed out at the function that awareness of the kidney ailment was very low in the country. It would help if a patient takes precaution if he suffers from diabetes or hypertension. As of now, most patients consult nephrologists when the ailment is at an advanced stage.
Dr Kanika Kapoor, the pediatric nephrologist at the Hospital, told the gathering that young children can suffer from kidney ailments. She suggested steps to monitor the ailing children. Dr Ravi Sahuta suggested measures to avoid Kidney ailments.
The Paras Hospital has also launched a ‘Utsaah’ programme for patients to share common problems and experience associated with the ailment. (ANI)
