World Day against Trafficking In Persons Held

Hyderabad: On eve of World day against trafficking in persons, Rachakonda Police held a workshop at LB Nagar here today,  in association with an NGO “Aide Et Action”
In this programme, Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda, Bhagwat, observed that the  commissionerate has taken up the rescuing of migrant labour children on war- foot basis after its bifurcating from Cyberabad two years back. During the last two years they have booked 170 cases, arrested 341 traffickers and 208 clients by rescuing 268 victims.  He thanked all the stakeholders particularly collectors Rangareddy,  Yadadri Bhongir and NGO Aid et action, Orissa government for their contribution.

The Chief guest Catherine Hadda, US Consulate Consul General,  observed that of the many issues that the US Government cares about globally, human trafficking is one their top priorities. In many cases, it is difficult for a state to know about the living conditions of their residents after they migrated elsewhere. And like wise, many destination states tend to treat migrant workers as visitors who are not their immediate responsibility. But, in this instance, both the source state and  destination state have proactively made it their shared responsibility to engage with NGOs and employers to address the schooling needs of the children of migrant brick kilns workers. She congratulated the Collectors of Ranga Reddy and Yadadri districts and Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda for giving adequate importance to the education of these children. (NSS)
