Hyderabad, September 21: After N T Rama Rao, P V Narasimha Rao and Marri Chenna Reddy memorial monuments, Greater Hyderabad is soon going to have one more such landmark.
The State Government is planning to construct a world class monument in memory of late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, who was killed in a chopper crash.
The State Government has asked the District Collector of Rangareddy and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) to identify suitable vacant Government land in the vicinity of Greater Hyderabad limits.
Already the Department of Culture held meetings with HMDA authorities to discuss the proposal and is in the process of finding suitable land in this regard.
The State Government is keen that the memorial should be unique, befitting the stature of the departed leader. It wants to invite internationally reputed firms for designing the memorial project. Though HMDA identified some vacant lands in the vicinity of twin cities at Sanjeevaiah park, the Government had shot down the proposal as the vacant areas were to small and not suitable for construction of spacious memorial.
A few more open places in Jubilee Hills, Gachibowli, Nanakramguda, Bowenpally and few more lands have been identified today. Rangareddy District Collector has been asked to submit details of the land by next week to which the Collector had agreed.
The State Government wants to make the memorial as one of tourist spots and desires that HMDA identify a large area of vacant land nearer to the city so that people would not have any difficulty in reaching the spot.
