World Bank report on India welcome news on paper: Congress

New Delhi: As India became the world’s sixth-biggest economy, pushing France into the seventh place, the Congress said on Thursday the World Bank report was welcome news on paper and added the economy will be become healthy when fuel prices are brought down.

“The World Bank report is a welcoming news on paper despite the fact that the boom in Indian economy came due to the policies of the Congress government, which is liberalization,” said Congress spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill.

“But, the common man neither cooks, nor fills these reports in his kitchen or in his car. Economy will only be labelled as healthy when fuel and commodity prices will come down, farmer suicides will reduce and unemployment rate which is at a 7-year high will come down,” he added.

He also said: “There is no point celebrating the World Bank Report on Indian economy when Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) advises the youth to sell ‘pakoras’ and ‘paan’.”

“Rather than celebrating and window-dressing exercises, the BJP government should face the reality and take precautionary measures,” he added.
