Bhopal August 10 (Pervez Bari):� The officiating Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, (AMU), Prof. Absar Mustafa Khan has said that a fast change is witnessed in the modern medical science and if we do not keep up with the pace, we will be left far behind.
Prof. Khan was addressing the inaugural session of the Workshop on Emergency and Trauma Airway Management organized by the Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College.
Prof. Khan said that no educational programme can be a success in the field of medical sciences without ample participation of research scholars of the field in the programme. The young physicians and surgeons will have ample opportunity to have working experience of the field of airway management and they will also be able to learn new techniques from the eminent personalities of the field which will ultimately result into a better and more responsive emergency management for the increased safety of patients lives.
According to a Press release issued by Zeeshan Ahmad, AMU’s Assistant Public Relations Officer, the chief guest of the occasion, Prof. O. P. Kalra from University College of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, said that the influx of the patients coming to emergency has increased in view of the population growth and about 80 per cent patients come to the hospitals through emergency while minimal 20 per cent patients only get through OPDs.
Prof. Kalra said that it is imminent for the medical colleges of the country to equip with the best talents in physiology and surgery so that the patients can be provided with the accurate medical assistance hence bringing the death rate down.
He said that considering the importance of trauma and airway management, Medical Council of India has added this in the curriculum of medical studies and it will be prove to be a boon to the medical system in future. He hoped that the workshop will be a success in its objective.
Prof. Praveen Agarwal, National Chairman of Indo-US Academic Council for Emergency and Trauma and the guest of honour of the occasion, said that every physician and surgeon attending the emergency should have the expertise in trauma and airway management in order to provide the best medical assistance to the patients who come to the emergency.
The Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Professor S. Abrar Hasan said that the workshop is equally important for the anaesthesiologists who have a great deal with the patients who come to emergency.
Prof. Ashraf Malik, Chief Medical Superintendent and Principal, J N Medical College, AMU said that the college administration is making efforts to upgrade the medical facilities available in the emergency and we are committed to provide all the life saving medical assistance to the patients coming to emergency.
Prof. Malik hoped that the airway management will enable our surgeons and physiologists will help in increasing the life saving prospects and bringing down the death rate.
Earlier, the course Director, Dr. S. Moied Ahmad, welcoming the guests and participants said that the maintenance of airway, oxygenation and ventilation are a priority in emergency and trauma patients hence there is a great need to equip the emergency physicians and trauma surgeons with the ample knowledge of airway management, oxygenation and ventilation that would help in developing skill in the doctors to deal with special trauma techniques to save and sustain patients� lives.
Dr. Ahmad said that the objective of the workshop is to cultivate confidence in the physicians to handle the critical situations efficiently and with increased positive results.
