Bhopal, August 14 (Pervez Bari): More than three dozen doctors got hands on training in mechanical ventilation and surgical airway to treat the emergency patients effectively in a three-day workshop on Emergency and Trauma Airway Management held at J. N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh.
At the end of the course the certificate distribution ceremony was held. Dr. S. Moied Ahmed, Director of the Course said that a majority of the participants said that they had found the course very informative, practical and useful to every doctor from any specialty.
Distributing certificates to the successful participants the Principal and CMS, JNMC, Prof. Ashraf Malik emphasized the importance of such courses in saving patients’ lives. Prof. Malik said that he plans to start a short term training program every month for the ACMO and the staff nurse. He further reiterated that the department of Anesthesiology has always been organizing these types of courses to upgrade the knowledge of the resident doctors as this ultimately improves the quality of patient care and the standard of the Medical College.
According to Zeeshan Ahmad, AMU’s Assistant Public Relations Officer, the participants of the three-day course-cum-workshop had to take a practical and a theoretical examination at the end of the course. There were 50 questions to be answered within 60 minutes and the participants who would obtain 75% would qualify the examination only. Thirty-nine participants took the course and all of them qualified the Basic airway management course on the first day. All the participants passed the advanced airway management course as well, the lowest marks obtained was 75% and the highest was 96%.
Earlier, the concluding day started with hands–on demonstrations of the surgical airways and video presentations by Dr. S. Moied Ahmed. Prof. Dhruv Chaudhary, Head, Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Rohtak Medical College, delivered a lecture on mechanical ventilation and hands-on training. The faculties present on this occasion included Prof. Rakesh Kumar, MAMC, New Delhi, Prof. Praveen Aggarwal, AIIMS, Prof. O. P. Kalra, UCMS, New Delhi, Prof. M.M.H. Siddiqui, Dr. S. Haleem, Dr. A. Quadir, Dr. H. Usmani, Dr. F. Nasreen, Dr. Abu Nadeem and Dr. S. H. Amir.
The concluding remarks were delivered by Prof. S. Bano, Chairman, Department of Anaesthesiology, who mentioned that the department has cohesive and devoted staff and it is only because of them that such type of Herculean task can be perfumed frequently.
