Hyderabad, April 07: To commence the Hyderabad Metro Rail Project, the state government will hand over two stretches- Nagole to Mettuguda (Corridor-III) and Miyapur to Ameerpet (Corridor-I) to the L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd shortly.
These corridors have been identified for immediate commencement of works as they have no bottlenecks.
The stretches have adequate road space and will not require acquisition of land from private parties.
Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMRL) managing director NVS Reddy told Express that L&T is in the process of locating piers, which will come up at every 100 metres.
Once the developer submits a report on the location of piers, departments like the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB), Central Power Distribution Company Limited (CPDCL), BSNL and other companies who have underground cables at the sites, would be asked to shift them to other places.
“As per directions of the chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, we are making all efforts to see that during the period of construction, there is least disturbance to road users and traffic jams are minimised,” NVS Reddy said. As part of the traffic management plan for the Nagole-Mettuguda stretch, where metro rail works are scheduled to commence in the next few weeks, a joint inspection was conducted by a traffic coordination committee two days ago, he added. In this 8-km stretch, the committee has prioritised junction improvement works at Uppal, Habsiguda, Tarnaka and Mettuguda, shifting of electrical lines to extreme ends of the road and replacement of some lines with underground electrical cables.
An open drain between Nagole and Uppal will be covered to get an additional 2 to 3 lanes to ease the flow of traffic. Similarly, service roads will be developed.
Three religious structures and three private properties are also coming in the way.
But since it is a sensitive issue, GHMC has initiated discussions with religious committee members, in order to relocate them to nearby places.
Traffic bottlenecks at Tarnaka and Uppal junctions would be tackled by acquisition of land and creating left splays. Alternative routes would be developed from Nagole-Ramanthapur and from Tarnaka to Chilkalguda junction to reduce congestion on the main corridor.
At some places the road divider would be readjusted to facilitate traffic flows and metro rail barricades adjusted, depending upon location constraints and commercial establishments.
