Workers rally in US for collective bargaining

Chicago, April 10: Thousands of Illinois teachers, carpenters and other public service workers gathered here in support of union employees against the proposal of limiting collective bargaining rights which regulate working conditions.

Connecting the rally to the April 4 anniversary of Martin Luther King’s assassination, thousands at Daley Centre carried signs in support of employees in Wisconsin and other states, and chanted “We are One”.

“King had also fought for worker rights. This is no longer a state movement. This is an international movement on behalf of working families,” said Betsy Kippers, Vice-President of the Wisconsin Education Association Council, who addressed the gathering, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Collective bargaining is a process of negotiations between employers and the representatives of a unit of employees aimed at reaching agreements which regulate working conditions.
