Hyderabad, October 13: A worker at a private chemical factory died after inhaling a poisonous gas in a private chemical factory at Jeedimetla on Monday. Another person, who also inhaled the gas, is being treated at a hospital.
According to police, Prabhakar (23) and Raju (22), both from Orissa are were helpers in the Nakoda Chemical Company at the Jeedimetla Industrial Development Area.
After completing their shift on Sunday night, the duo reportedly went into the bathroom to clean their clothes. “The workers generally use a chemical called Tolin, an alcoholic substance, to clean their clothes. The duo, however, mixed water with the chemical to clean their clothes,” Jeedimetla police sub-inspector Pravinder Rao said.
The chemical reacted with water and it started emanating a poisonous gas which engulfed the bathroom which surprisingly was locked from inside by the duo, the SI said.
Both the workers fell unconscious as they inhaled the gases which filled the small bathroom.
It was around 9.30 am on Monday when the workers saw the bathroom locked from inside and they found the duo unconscious inside. They forced opened the doors and shifted them to a hospital where Prabhakar was declared dead while Raju is being treated. His condition is said to be stable.
