New Delhi: The head of the economic wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh said that the Reserve Bank of India governor should work in sync with the central government to support economic growth or he should resign. Ashwani Mahajan is the ideological mentor of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ruling party, the BJP.
In an interview on Wednesday the RSS official, Ashwani Mahajan said RBI Governor Urjit Patel should also “restrain his officials from making differences public”. He asked the RBI governor to resign if he doesn’t follow discipline.
Mr Mahajan the chief of the RSS’s Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) economic group said that the government had every right to use the powers of the RBI act.
Reports were coming in that Urjit Patel could consider resigning from his post given a breakdown in relations with the government, sparking a sell-off in the rupee and bonds.
