Imphal: The recently crowned Miss Manipur 2017 Strela Thounaojam Luwang has said that she is ecstatic to win the prestigious title and would like to work on issues involving animal safety and old aged people.
“I don’t really have the words to describe it but I am very happy. I am very thankful to all the organizers. I am young and I really don’t have the means to go out and help people right but I would like to try my best to work on animal safety and old people,” the beauty pageant winner said.
There is a growing inclination to join the fashion industry among the youth in Northeast India and the region has produced many outstanding personalities and professionals in various work sectors.
With a motive give wings to young women of the state and build platform to identify their potentials at a fairly competitive stage, the 2017 edition of ‘Miss Manipur’, one of the grandest beauty pageants of the state was recently held at Bheigyachandra Open Air Theatre, Palace Compound in Imphal.
A total of 17 contestants from across the state were selected, put through a month long training before they competed for the coveted title.
During the grand finale, all the 17 finalists took to the stage and competed for the crown in three different rounds, namely traditional, casual and western wear.
Based on the rounds of Q and A and written test, Strela Thounaojam Luwang of Uripok Bachaspati Leikai, Imphal was crowned ‘Miss Manipur 2017’ and was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 80,000 along with gifts hampers.
Priyanka Gotimayum and Konthoujam Mangal Chanu bagged the 1st and 2nd runners-up titles with cash prizes of Rs. 60,000 and Rs. 40,000 respectively.
Apart from the prestigious titles, seven other sub-titles of Miss Beautiful Hair, Congeniality, Popularity, Beautiful Skin, Talented, Catwalk, and Best Designer were given to the contestants.
Addressing the grand finale as Chief Guest, Th. Karam Shyam, CAF and PD, Revenue Minister and Chairman Tourism Corporation of Manipur Ltd said that ‘Miss Manipur’ pageant was a way to expose the beautiful character, talents and morals of a women apart from appreciating the different structures of human anatomy like eyes, nose etc.
The platform of ‘Miss Manipur’ has been a dream destination for young women of the state to unfold themselves and chase the opportunity to showcase their talents in a professional manner.(ANI)
