‘Work for Hindus, not for those with topi (cap) and burkha’: BJP MLA

BENGALURU: A video of Karnataka BJP MLA urging its corporators to ‘work for Hindus, not for Muslims’ has gone viral on social media platforms drawing strong criticism.

Basangouda Patil Yatnal, an MLA from Bijapur City has courted controversy on Thursday after he urge elected representatives like corporators to work for the welfare of Hindus and not Muslims.

Speaking at a public meeting, he said, “I had told them to work for Hindus and not Muslims, who have voted for me in Bijapur.”

He further said that, “I had said no to Muslims initially…I had instructed my people that those with topi (cap) and burkha should not come and stand in my office or beside me,” Yatnal is purportedly heard saying in the video to raucous cheers from the crowd.

Yatnal was the Minister of State, Railways, and Minister of State, Textiles, in the third Vajpayee government.
