Work in earnest, Rosaiah tells ministers

Hyderabad, April 23: Undeterred by the adverse media reports on the Prajapatham programme, chief minister K Rosaiah today exhorted his ministerial colleagues to go ahead with the programme and solve people’s problems without delay.

“By and large, the programme is successful,’’ he said at a Cabinet meeting here. Some ministers pointed out that only ‘negative’ reports were being published by newspapers on Prajapatham though no major disturbances took place at the event.

“People participating in the programme are only raising the problems faced by them,’’ they said.

In response, Rosaiah said all the ministers and other public representatives should focus their attention on resolving public issues raised during the programme. “They (media) write what they want, but we (public representatives) should go ahead solving people’s problems.’’ The Cabinet felt the need to consult the Medical Council of India (MCI) before taking a decision on its proposal to make it mandatory for the medical students to work in villages for a minimum period of two years immediately after completion of the MBBS course. Several ministers apprehended that the students who desired to become a doctor might go to other States and countries to pursue their career if the state government pressurised them to work in rural areas after their studies. In fact, a majority of the doctors were not willing to work in rural areas, they said.

As regards the Tribal Empowerment Policy for 2010-2015, D Prasada Rao and S Vijayarama Raju wanted tribals living in non-tribal areas also covered dunder the Integrated Tribal Development Authority programme.

Intervening, tribal welfare minister P Balaraju claimed that he had already taken steps for identification of such tribals for the purpose.

Interestingly, after the Cabinet meeting several ministers met the chief minister separately in his chambers to discuss matters pertaining to their constituencies and the departments concerned.
