Women’s Commission seeks protection of Indian domestic servants working in Gulf

It must be ensured that the women leaving for Gulf countries to work as domestic servants should have required documents including valid passport, visa work permit along with them, said Chairperson of State Women’s Commission Tripurana Venkataratnam speaking to media persons in Kareem Nagar. She said poor women have been traveling to the Gulf countries lured by high salaries, but they were facing hardships after landing there.

Chairperson of State Women’s Commission Tripurana Venkataratnam has advised women from the state not to go the Gulf countries to work as domestic helps, unless they have complete information about their employment, and not to get cheated by middlemen. She urged central government to take preventive measures. She proposed that such women are issued identity cards the embassy should have a record of their addresses. The Women’s Commission also suggested that the salaries of the domestic servants are deposited in their bank accounts through embassy.
