Kristin Szremski a 53-year-old mom, a award winning Journalist from Palo Hills, Illinois. Born into a Missouri-Synod Lutheran family, has first converted to Catholicism before finding her place in Islam.
This year, Szremski was one of the hundreds of thousands of Muslims who were drawn to Mecca between October 2 – 7 to perform the Hajj, the fifth pillar of Islam.
Szremski born and brought up in a Missouri-Synod Lutheran family. She says, her first encounter with Islam was in 2000 when she worked for the Star Newspaper in Chicago as a special assignment reporter on Arab Community. While conducting research during the first six weeks, she got a chance to interview many Arab Muslims, their Islamic lifestyle cultivated her, and stimulate her to find out more about Islam, driven by her spiritual hunger. However, she says conversion of islam was not something that happened overnight, it probably took more than 18 months.
What fascinated her the most during this period was the startling similarity between most of the teachings found in both the Quran and the Bible, She recalls.
I love Islam because of its Purity, its Simplicity and its Truth. The Muslims I had met were truly pleasant, patience and well mannered.
