Women harassed at workplace even today

The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday expressed concern over the fact that women continued to be harassed at work places. It directed all state governments to implement its verdict passed 15 years ago and bring amendments in law to stop such incidents.

A bench headed by Justice R. M. Lodha asked the governments to execute a law to tackle the problem instead of making hollow statements and sloppy enforcement of the laws to uplift the condition of women.

The bench said, ‘the guidelines were laid down by Supreme Court in The Vishaka judgment on 13.8.1997 but 15 years after this many women still struggle to have their basic rights protected at workplaces.’

The court also lamented the dismal representation of women in Parliament and legislative assemblies.
