Women groups plan “Midnight March” on January

Various women’s groups and individuals in the State capital are organizing the “first midnight march” on January 5, 2013. The objective of the march was to raise voice against violence on women’s society and spread message for deserving a respect at Day and Night.

Speaking to the media here, V. Sandhya of POW said the first such midnight march would certainly be a symbolic protest in view of Delhi’s rape incident, while demanding equal freedom and safety for women even during nights. She also ridiculed the remarks of PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana and President Pranab Mukerjee’s son on violence against women in the society. She thanked the City police commissioner for granting permission in this regard.

Ridiculing the government for undertaking huge projects for city’s beautification and modernization on priority basis, Sandhya said the government was not bothered to provide security to girl students and women employees on the streets. Therefore, they were facing problems due to lack of bus facility at several localities or colonies. She demanded that the government set up complaint cells for the women’s safety.

COVA member Mumtaz said parents of girl children were afraid of sending their children out because of insecure environment in the society. She said that women were facing teasing and sexual harassment while they were on the way to their offices or educational institutions.
