Women empowerment must for development: Rahul Gandhi

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi said “focalizing energy is a dynamic and effective process that makes Indian women fearless”, while holding an interactive session with women here on Friday. He listened to the plight of women and answered their question, giving a conclusion that states where women were suppressed would never progress.

“The states in India which are fast developing are the ones where women are given a place and where women are not suppressed. If you go to Kerala, Tamil Nadu, or Maharashtra, which are growing at a fast pace, women there are fearless,” said Gandhi, Since the commencement of Congress campaign for the elections due in May this year, Gandhi has been focusing primarily on bringing the fairer sex to the forefront. Gandhi is trying to get women”s reservation bill passed in the parliament.

The Women”s Reservation Bill – if passed by parliament – will reserve one-third of seats at national and state assemblies for women. Gandhi asked women to take a stand for themselves if they wanted to see India shining. “When I sit in the parliament, the women who come in are the ones associated with the men in the parliament – a wife, a sister or a daughter.

But women cannot enter the parliament, or go to Vidhan Sabha or become chief minister or prime minister by standing on their own feet. You have to change this,” said Gandhi. (ANI)
