Women can turn towns green: KTR

Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao today wooed the woman to plant 5 saplings each to set another record of sorts. Active participation of women in Harithaharam drive will turn the towns green he expressed hope.

At  awareness program for self help groups after planting a sapling at CDMA office here the minister expressed hope that the flagship program of Harithaharm program will be a great success if women participate voluntarily in huge numbers. In addition to the Harithaharam program being launched on July 11 to plant 25 lakhs of saplings he asked the municipal officials to stop encroachment of their lands by planting 64 lakhs of saplings in 72 municipalities in the 806 acres land identified for the purpose.  He directed to Dana Kishore Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration to appoint a special officer to monitor the green drive and steps for geo-fencing and green-fencing to protect the saplings. We will offer suitable rewards to the towns vying for greenery protection giving Rs 5 cr to he said and asked for coordinated efforts of local leaders and officials.

The changed environment scenario of pollution pushes the government to focus on increasing the greenery he said adding that though some people are unaware of global warming they are able to see the adverse effect of local warming resulting in drought and low rainfall. This time our target is to plant 230 cr fo saplings and 46 cr saplings are ready for this year. (NSS)
