Hyderabad, March 09: Even as women across the world celebrated Women’s Day on Tuesday, a private school teacher was murdered allegedly by her distant cousin while another woman ended her life depressed over her husband’s death in the city.
The private school teacher, T Shilpa Ratna Kumari (28), was married to Gopi Kumar, a contract supervisor of GHMC, and the couple were residing at Pamul Basthi in Amberpet. Shilpa, hailing from Warangal, and Gopi were married in 2007 after they fell in love.
Gopi was already married and Shilpa was his second wife, police said. Shilpa was working as a teacher in Guru Datta school at Nallakunta.
Amberpet police inspector T Goverdhan said Gopi’s cousin, Seshu Kumar of Nalgonda, used to visit the house frequently as he was searching of a job in the city. Two days back also, Seshu Kumar came to the city and was staying at Gopi’s house.
“Yesterday night, Gopi left for his parents house at Hayathnagar while Seshu stayed back. Today morning around 9.30 a.m, Seshu called Gopi and told him that he had a quarrel with his ‘akka’ (elder sister) and in a fit of rage had killed her,” Goverdhan said.
Gopi called up his relatives in the city and asked them to check on his wife. The relatives found Shilpa dead in the house.
“Shilpa was throttled to death. We are not sure what happened between the two resulting in the killing,” the inspector said. A case under section 302 (murder) was registered and investigation is on.
In another incident, a 28-year housewife, Sheela Agarwal jumped to her death from an apartment along with her three-month-old daughter leaving the baby with severe injuries and battling for life.
She jumped from the fifth floor of her apartment on Tuesday evening at Professor’s Colony in Malakpet reportedly depressed over her husband’s death.
“Sheela’s husband, Mithun Agarwal, hanged himself to death due to financial problems on March 5,” Malakpet police inspector V Ravi Kumar said.
Sheela was in a depressed state since then. Around 4.30 p.m, Sheela went to the fifth floor with her baby and jumped. The couple have another daughter, Pranithi, who was in school when the incident took place.
Sheela suffered severe injuries and died instantly. The baby, who also suffered serious injuries, is battling for life at a private hospital.
