Woman, son ends life believing they are target of black magic

Visakhapatnam (AP): Bodies of a 48-year-old woman and her son were found hanging from the ceiling of their house in Abidnagar area here today with police suspecting the duo committed suicide believing that they were being targeted through black magic.

Prima facie, M Kamala and her son M Ravi Kumar (30), took the extreme step on Saturday as they were depressed believing that some unnatural power was targeting their family, Fourth Town police station Inspector K Balakrishna said.

The incident came to light today after Kamala’s husband M Maheswara Rao, who had gone to Vizianagaram to find a sorcerer to counter what he suspected was black magic against the family, returned, the inspector said, adding Ravi worked as a software engineer in Bhubaneswar.

The family believed that they were being targeted through black magic after Kamala’s elder son M Kanaka Raju committed suicide around two years ago, Balakrishna said.

Their bodies were sent for post-mortem and a case has been registered, police said, adding investigations are underway.
