Thane: A 22-year-old woman was set afire allegedly by her husband and in-laws in Kasara town of the district, prompting police to arrest her husband.
The victim was reportedly immolated by five persons, including her husband, on June 1, Police Inspector (PI) Pradeep Kasbe of Kasara police station said quoting the complaint filed by the victim’s mother.
She was admitted by the neighbours to Nashik Civil Hospital and is fighting for her life, Kasbe said.
The woman’s in-laws harassed, abused and thrashed her over petty issues, he said.
The husband, who runs a mobile shop, was arrested last night, the officer said, adding the other accused have been identified.
A case has been registered against the five accused under section 307 (attempt to murder), 498A (husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) r/w 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC, and further investigation into the matter is going on, he said.
