Ananatapur, December 04: In a shocking incident, a youth, Harijana Venkatappa (30), set ablaze a woman, Bharatamma (28), for spurning his love at Mydagolam village in Lepakshi mandal today.
According to information reaching here, Venkatappa, an autorickshaw driver, used to pester Bharatamma to have a relationship with him but the woman turned down his proposal.
Venkatappa plies his autorickshaw between Lepakshi and Mydagolam, and Bharatamma hired his vehicle several times.
On coming to know that she was living alone after her husband had deserted her five years ago due to some differences, Venkatappa started pestering her to accept his love and live with him, which she turned down.
Today, Venkatappa went to Bharatamma’s house, doused her with kerosene, set her ablaze and fled. Locals took her to a hospital in Hindupur for treatment, but her condition is said to be critical.
Lepakshi police registered a case and launched a search for the accused who is said to be a native of Seenampalle in the bordering Karnataka state.
