New Delhi, June 27: The 35-year-old woman, who had accused policemen of raping her, has gone back on her words.
She brought allegations against five officers, including the station house officer (SHO) of the Inderpuri police station, in order to save her husband from arrest, she has said.
The woman from Southwest Delhi’s Inderpuri appeared before a magistrate in Dwarka court on Friday and recorded her statement under Section 164 of CrPC, admitting “she was not sexually assaulted.”
Police officers said the woman had tried to implicate SHO Pradeep Kumar, because he had launched a drive against criminal activity in the area.
Her husband, Dheeraj, is a known bootlegger and has three cases of bootlegging and betting to his name in Inderpuri.
Delhi police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said, “In her (Section) 164 (CrPC) statement, she said her husband, a bookie, had been active in betting. Fearing he might be arrested, she had levelled these allegations so that the SHO would be transferred or suspended.” Bhagat added: “The Crime Branch probe is still on. We are waiting for forensic reports.”
The woman’s clothes and vaginal swab were sent to the FSL for analysis after her initial medical examination revealed that she was not raped.
On Thursday, she could not even identify her “rapists” during a Test Identification Parade.
A few officers were paraded in front of her, but she could identify only the SHO. Besides, there were several contradictions in her statements to the police. The couple also had several fights before the police while they were being questioned about their statements.
