Woman murdered by paramour in Delhi home

New Delhi, May 29: A 27-year-old man allegedly stabbed to death a married woman he was in a relationship with before attempting suicide at the woman’s rented house in southwest Delhi Thursday, the police said.

Pintu and Poonam, 25, were found in a pool of blood with multiple stab injuries on the third floor house in Dabri area when the woman’s husband Munna, who works in the export-import company just below the house, went to check on his wife.

Munna, who is presently in police custody for questioning, told police that he was in the office when Pintu arrived. He said he saw Pintu, who lived in Chanakyapuri area, going upstairs and sometime later, he also went upstairs.

“Munna said he knocked on the door several times but when he did not get any response, he peeped from the window and saw two of them lying in a pool of blood. So he raised an alarm. Munna says Pintu might have first murdered his wife and then attempted suicide,” said a police officer.

The landlord informed the police about the incident. The police took Pintu and Poonam to Safdarjung hospital. Poonam was declared brought dead while Pintu, who works as a supplier of gas cylinders, was critical. His statement could not be recorded till late Thursday.

The police said it was yet to establish whether Pintu first murdered the woman and then attempted suicide or some third person attempted to murder both of them.

“Our investigation reveals that about one and a half years ago, Poonam and her husband Munna lived in Chanakya Place in Janakpuri. Pintu was their neighbour and he got close to Poonam. Munna got whiff of their relationship and shifted to Dabri along with his wife,” said the police officer.

“We have registered a case and are exploring all possible angles,” said the officer.
