New Delhi: A 21-year-old woman was allegedly molested by a nursing orderly at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri area, police said today.
The accused, identified as Umed Singh Yadav, was arrested from the hospital last night after the woman lodged a complaint against him, police said.
“A case under Section 354 of the IPC (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) has been registered,” said a senior police officer.
The woman had been staying with her pregnant sister, who has been admitted to the maternity ward of the hospital for the last three to four days.
Yesterday, when she was in the ward with her brother-in-law at around 10 pm, Yadav came and tried to hold her. When she resisted and pushed him away, he verbally abused her, the victim told police.
When her brother-in-law stepped in, Yadav also threatened him, police said.
The hospital staff then intervened and Yadav was taken away. The woman made a PCR call and the man was subsequently arrested, said the officer.
In her complaint, she has also alleged that the accused had been harassing her right from the time she got her sister admitted to the hospital.
“We are trying to ascertain whether the accused was drunk at the time of the incident and have sent his blood samples to the lab,” added the officer.
