While the Congress high priests in New Delhi were racking their brains over selection of candidates for fielding in the June 12 by-elections in the State, party’s woman leader Vijaya Rao launched dharna on the premises of Gandhi Bhavan opposing the candidature of Sumana in the Payakaraopeta in Visakhapatnam district.
On coming to know that the Congress High Command was in favour of giving ticket to Sumana for Payakaraopet Assembly constituency, Vijaya Rao resorted to the protest. She questioned the wisdom of Congress leaders in finalizing Sumana’s name for Payakaraopet, who had worked for defeat of party candidate in the last election.
Stating that she would not give up her dharna until the High Command makes it clear that party ticket would not be given to Sumana, Vijaya Rao said that she would have no objection if the party selected a sincere party leader, who worked hard for the party. (NSS)
