Kishenganj: A woman and her three children died here today after consuming poison in what appears to be a case of suicide committed due to economic distress, police said.
Rekha Devi (25), a resident of Jhunki Musahara village in Tedhagachh police station area of the district fed poison to her three children before consuming the same herself, Deputy Superintendent of Police Kamini Bala said.
She said Rekha’s husband has been away for about three months in search of a job and the woman appears to have taken the extreme step because of her dismal economic condition.
The Deputy SP also said Rekha had clutched at a mobile handset while breathing her last.
Further investigations are on, she added.
