Hyderabad, May 17: A newly-wed woman was arrested by police on Monday for allegedly killing her husband with the help of her paramour barely 20 days after the marriage.
After killing her husband, the duo dumped the body at an under-construction building. Later, feigning innocence, the woman lodged a complaint with the Miyapur police stating that her husband went missing. Police unravelled the murder mystery with the help of cellphone call data.
Miyapur sub-inspector G Srikanth said the woman, Prabhavathi, 22, a native of Kadiri in Anantapur district, got married to one Sudhakar, who was a teacher and part-timer in a finance company, on February 24 at Srisailam in Kurnool district. After their marriage, she along with her husband had been staying at Gokul Flats near Miyapur.
Prabhavathi, who used to work as a nurse in Kadiri, was already in love with one Venkata Ramana, a photographer of the same village, for the past few years. However, she did muster enough courage to tell her parents about their love.
Even after marriage, Prabhavathi and her lover Venkata Ramana were in touch over the phone and decided they could not live without each other and hatched a plan to eliminate Sudhakar, police said.
On March 15, Prabhavathi reportedly bought sleeping pills and mixed them in a soft drink. She offered the drink to her husband, who fell unconscious after consuming it. As per their plan, Venkata Ramana reached Hyderabad on March 15 morning and was waiting outside. As soon as Sudhakar slipped into deep sleep, Prabhavathi called him into the house. The two then covered his face with a polythene cover and smothered him to death, the SI said. Later, they dumped the body at an under-construction building nearby, police added.
Prabhavathi lodged a police complaint the next day claiming that her husband was missing. As there were no enemies to Sudhakar, police inquired into her antecedents at Kadiri and came to know about her lover. Police then took the call history of the woman with Venkata Ramana and interrogated them.
Police claimed Venkata Ramana and Prabhavathi confessed that they had killed Sudhakar. The duo were arrested on Monday.
