Woman killed, house ransacked in Delhi

New Delhi, February 02: A 42-year-old woman was Tuesday murdered in her house in northwest Delhi. Police said burglary could have been the motive behind the killing.

Mamata Thakur was found dead with her throat slit in her apartment in Rohini Sector 9. Her husband Praveen Thakur, a broker, and three children were all out of their Friends Apartments residence at the time of the incident.

Mamata was found dead after their domestic help Raju returned home. According to the police, she was killed between 2 p.m. and 2.30 p.m.

“Mamata had sent Raju to get some food items from the market. Raju returned within 15 minutes and found the house locked from inside. He repeatedly knocked on the door but to no avail. He then went upstairs to call one of the neighbours. They both knocked at the door,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer Delhi) Atul Katiyar.

“At this point, a man from inside asked them to come back again in 15 minutes as some work was on. The neighbours waited and returned back but this time found a man running away from the house. The man couldn’t be caught and once they went into the house they found the lady’s throat slit and the entire house ransacked,” he added.

The victim’s family haS ruled out personal enmity as a motive.

“It looks like a case of murder for robbery. But we are investigating all possible angles,” the official said.
