Woman kidnapped infant to save marriage

Hyderabad, November 08:The City Police on Tuesday arrested a woman who kidnapped an infant boy to save her second marriage.

According to police, the accused – Mumtaz Begum, a resident of Pahadishareef, kidnapped an infant boy from Government Area Hospital at Malakpet on November 5. Basing on a complaint lodged by infant’s parents – Mahbood Begum and Firoz Qureshi, a case of kidnapping was registered and a special team led by DCP East Zone Y Gangadhar started investigation.

Basing on the cell phone call analysis, the police was able to locate the address of kidnapper Mumtaz Begum and raided her house to rescue the baby. Enquiries by the police revealed that the accused Mumtaz Begum had a son and two daughters from her first husband Syed Kareem who died about two-and-a-half years ago. Last year, she performed second marriage with one Basith, who had only two daughters but no male child.

Police say that Basith married Mumtaz to have a male child. Since Mumtaz has undergone tubectomy operation, she approached Dr. Khadija of Khadija Maternity Home to have a child. While expressing helplessness, the doctor advised her to fake pregnancy and get a male infant from anywhere. Accordingly, the doctor issued Antenatal Card to the accused, mentioning her as pregnant and got her checkup regularly to show her as pregnant.

Meanwhile, Mumtaz searched for the male infant baby and finally she was able to kidnap the infant male baby from Area Hospital Malakpet on November 5. She took the baby to the Khadija Maternity Home at Bhavani Nagar and admitted as inpatient in the hospital. She informed her husband and other relatives that she has delivered a male baby. The next day, she was discharged from the hospital and went home. On a tip off, she was arrested along with the kidnapped infant baby.

Applauding the work done by the staff of Chaderghat police station, the DCP said that the team would be rewarded suitably
