Woman gives birth to quadruplets

Hyderabad, March 25: A 24-year-old woman has given birth to quadruplets on Monday last (March 22) at Maternity Hospital, Petlaburj of which one infant expired due to low birth weight while the other three are in acute medical care in the ICU of Niloufer Hospital.

The remaining infants, two boys and one girl, are struggling with severe respiratory distress and hospital doctors have kept their fingers crossed on chances of recovery.

The mother, Santoshi, underwent caesarean surgery at the Maternity Hospital, formerly Nayapul hospital and doctors had to immediately shift the four infants, three boys and a girl, to Niloufer Hospital. “They were just weighing 1.2 kilograms which is very low birth weight. They had to be kept in ICU,” said Dr. S. Sandhya Rani of the maternity hospital. “The babies are premature by birth and we are trying our best to treat them properly. They are in ICU and we can’t predict the outcome of the treatment,” Niloufer Hospital RMO, Dr. Sunita maintained.
