New Delhi, July 27: 27-year-old woman was found dead under mysterious conditions in Harsh Vihar, with her relatives claiming dowry harassment. Sangeeta was found dead at her in-laws’ house by her parents on Saturday evening. The body bore bruises.

The police said the death was reported from house number 55, lane 8 in Harsh Vihar and that the husband of the deceased, Todarmal Dinesh, his uncle Prem Dinesh, sister-in-law Madhu and other accused in the case are absconding.

According to police, Sangeeta’s father, Prakash, called them on Saturday evening saying that he found his daughter dead under the staircase of her in-laws’ house. He said he had gone to his daughter’s house to sort out a dowry demand.

Prakash, who lives in Ghaziabad, told the police that his daughter called her mother on the night of July 24 and told her that Dinesh was demanding Rs 5 lakh. Dinesh had allegedly threatened to kill her if the money was not paid.

Sangeeta’s mother told her that they would come in the morning to sort out the matter.

On July 25, Dinesh called Sangeeta’s father and said she had run away from the house. His father rushed to his daughter’s house and found her lying dead under the staircase.

Prakash told the police that he immediately called the PCR and Sangeeta’s husband and in-laws fled from the house. Police have registered a case of dowry death and a SDM inquiry has been ordered.

Sangeeta’s father alleged that Dinesh had been harassing her for dowry for the last four years.
