Woman Drug-pusher Gets 10-year Jail, Fined Dh50,000

Dubai, August 29: A woman visitor was sentenced on Thursday to 10 years in jail and to pay a fine of Dh50,000 for possession of drugs for trafficking.

She will be deported after serving the jail term.

The Court of First Instance found the 25-year-old woman from Zimbabwe guilty of possessing 1,022gm of heroin.

The defendant was caught at Dubai International Airport on April 30 after a police sergeant suspected her because she was tense and apparently scared.

The police found the drugs hidden inside a plastic bag in the bottom of the defendant’s luggage.

In the interrogations, she admitted to taking the drugs from a man in Pakistan. He wanted to sell the drugs to someone in Zimbabwe. She was supposed to deliver the heroin for $800.

The Pakistani man bought her the Dubai travel ticket.

Three on Trial for Jewellery Theft
The Court of First Instance heard a case of theft of gold plates and rings worth about half a million dirhams.

The defendants were three Asians working for the plaintiff, a jewellery firm. They include a jewellery maker, an office boy and a worker.

The firm’s production manager stated in the interrogations that the discovery of theft was made in July when jewels and gold plates were missing.

“Our administration believes that the jewellery maker was stealing the plates from the jewellery cast section,” the production manager said.

The manager added that the office boy managed to find a way out for the stolen jewellery using windows inside the administration offices. “The third defendant hid the jewellery.’’

According to the manager’s statement, all the company’s employees are being checked when exiting the workplace. “Right after the theft incident we opened an investigation. We found out that the jewellery maker had made money transfers worth Dh82,000”.

He said he paid the office boy Dh15,000 after selling the stolen jewellery.
