Hyderabad, July 22: A woman on Tuesday threw her two young daughters into a water drum and then descended into it head first at Begumpet. It is alleged that she had been depressed after giving birth to two daughters. Police said the woman had a history of abnormal behaviour and had tried to end her life earlier by jumping into the Hussain Sagar.
According to police, Manemma (25), was married to Gelavayya in 2003. Hailing from the Mahabubnagar district, they had migrated to the city in search for livelihood. The couple were daily wage earners and had been living at Prakash Nagar in Begumpet.
They had two daughters, five-year-old Ankita and one-and-half-year-old Geeta.
“Late yesterday night, Manemma threw her two children into a plastic drum filled with water in the house. Later, she too killed herself by plunging into it upside down,’’ Begumpet police sub-inspector K Satish said.
“According to locals and family members, Manemma used to behave abnormally. She had not been taking proper care of her children and used to illtreat them,’’ the SI said. It is also alleged that she was depressed over losing her hair at an early age.
