Srinagar: A 40-year-old woman died after a deodar tree fell on her mud-built house due to high velocity winds in Ganderbal district of central Kashmir, police said today.
A deodar tree was uprooted due to heavy winds and fell on the house of Shabir Ahmad Chara at Rayil forest in Gund, 37kms from here last evening, a police official said.
Chara’s wife Ameena Bano died on the spot in the incident, but other members of her family escaped unhurt.
High-velocity winds swept parts of Ganderbal district last evening for nearly half an hour and uprooted trees at many places, forcing authorities to briefly snap the power supply of the area as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, the body of an unidentified person was found from the main road at Takiya Pandesh in Soura area on the outskirts of Srinagar, the official said.
Efforts are on to establish the identity of the deceased and the cause of death, he said.
