New Delhi: A 25-year-old woman died under mysterious circumstances in northeast Delhi’s Nand Nagri area, following which her husband was arrested on allegations of dowry death, polcie said.
However, a preliminary medical examination has found that the woman hadn’t eaten anything for two days and there were traces of alcohol found in her body, said a senior police officer, adding that there were minor abrasions found on her body but nothing to suggest that she died due to severe torture.
Police said her viscera sample has been preserved for further examination.
Pooja was admitted to GTB Hospital yesterday by her husband Sanjay (26), an e-rickshaw driver, where she was declared brought dead, he said.
Pooja and Sanjay had a love marriage in 2010 and have two kids. In a statement recorded before the SDM, Pooja’s mother alleged that Sanjay used to torture her daughter for dowry, said the officer.
A case under section 304(B) (Dowry death) has been registered against Sanjay and he has been arrested, said the officer.
Further investigation is underway.
