New Delhi, July 04: A 32-year-old woman was battling for life here Monday after she jumped in front of a Delhi Metro train with her two daughters, who miraculously survived, police said.
Anita, along with the two girls aged four and two, leapt from the platform as the train was entering the Seelampur Metro station in east Delhi.
Police said the woman took the extreme step because of a quarrel with her husband, Vinod, who works as a salesman in an apparel shop in east Delhi.
A Delhi Metro official claimed she was not carrying her children at the time of the incident. ‘She did jump in front of the train but without her kids. The train driver applied the emergency brakes and she wasn’t run over,’ said the official.
Police, however, said the train halted after a couple of coaches passed over the woman and her children. She suffered serious head injuries. One of her daughters received minor injuries.
According to police, the woman and her daughters fell in the hollow area between the tracks and were saved from being crushed under the wheels.
The woman was rushed to the Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital where she was kept under observation.
