Woman constable seeks SHRC help

Hyderabad, March 18: A woman constable on Thursday knocked on the doors of the State Human Rights commission for justice alleging that the police department was victimising her to protect a few higher officials against whom she had lodged a complaint some time ago.

S Jalau Usha, a woman constable working at the Gopalpatnam police station in Visakhapatnam had lodged complaints against her senior officers C I Bhargavnath Naidu and DSP Rajendernath in seperate incidents for sexual harassment. However, she accused the department of showing leniency towards the accused and instead placing her on suspension in the name of probing the incident.

She also said that off late she has been getting threatening calls and suspected the two senior officers of being involved in it.

She appealed to the SHRC to provide her with security and also requested that a judicial enquiry be conducted in this issue. Further, she asked the commission to direct the department to pay her a sum of `50 lakhs as personal damages. Taking note of the issue, SHRC chairman K P Reddy directed the DGP to submit a report by April 18.
