Mumbai, May 13: The Bhandup police on Tuesday arrested Dipika Sutar (30) for allegedly killing her two-and-a-half-year-old stepson. “Sutar was arrested after she confessed to the crime on Tuesday, although the motive is unclear,” said Senior Police Inspector Vilas Shinde of Bhandup police station.
The police registered a case of accidental death, after Kartik Sutar was found dead by his stepmother Dipika at their home. The mother told the police she found Kartik inside a bucket filled with water.
The neighbours rushed him to Rajawadi Hospital, but he was declared dead before admission. However, the neighbours on Monday alleged they suspected Dipika killed the boy because the boy could not have died by falling inside a bucket containing just five inches of water.
Based on their allegations, the police questioned Dipika for over two days.
