Woman committed suicide

A dowry death case was registered by KPHB police against a human resource manager of an optics firm and his family members after his 26-year-old wife committed suicide by hanging at their house in Nizampet on Tuesday.

Indira, the victim of aged 26, wife of Vastavai Deepak Varma from Bhimavaram.

Deepak and Indira were classmates while pursuing MBA at Eluru a few years ago. The couple fell in love with each other and got wedded with the blessing of their parents two years ago. Indira left behind a seven-month-old daughter.

Deepak and Indira shifted to Nizampet after the marriage. At 11.30 pm on Monday, Indira called her sister and told her that Deepak had been beating her up and mentally harassing her for the past few months by finding flaws with her about insignificant issues.

A little while later in the midnight, Deepak’s family alerted Indira’s brother Madhu saying that her condition was critical and asked the latter to come to a hospital at KPHB. “Madhu reached the private hospital and he was told by doctors that Indira was pronounced dead on arrival,” Indira’s cousin Palla Srinivas told TOI.

The relatives of the victims then lodged a complaint with KPHB police on Tuesday alleging that Indira committed suicide by hanging due to the harassment of her husband and in-laws.

“At the time of marriage, Indira’s father Raju gave 50 tolas of gold and Rs 7 lakh cash as dowry. Despite that, Deepak and her in-laws harassed Indira and drove her to commit suicide,” Srinivas said.

The victim left no suicide note. After the investigation KPHB police registered a case under section 304-B (Dowry death) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Deepak, his parents Ramachandra Raju and Soumya Sree. No arrests were made yet.
