Alleged harassment by husband led a 30-year-old woman to commit suicide here on February 19.
The deceased, Thahira, wife of Muhammed Haneef and a resident of Shivalli in Udupi district allegedly hanged herself to death at her husband’s house.
Her mother and brother filed a complaint at Manipal police station stating that she was being physically abused by her husband. They also alleged that Thahira was not allowed to visit her parents for many years.
“We were not allowed to see her even after she delivered two boys who are aged 11 and 10 years old now. Recently, Thahira’s husband asked her to bring money from her brothers,” her mother said.
It is learnt that Thahira went missing some weeks ago but she returned home after a few days.
It was on February 19, that she took the extreme step by hanging herself with a wire. Though she was rushed to a nearby hospital, the doctors declared her brought dead.
